Amapiano Awards Cancelled Again: Ownership Dispute Leads to Another Cancelation
The folks in charge hurriedly left The Galleria in Sandton
when guests were just starting to arrive for the second annual South African
Amapiano Awards. Qhubani, also known as DJ Qness, and his business partner,
Pleasure Adams, left without giving any reasons for cancelling the awards for
the third time.
As people dressed in fancy tuxedos and elegant ball gowns
gathered at the entrance, excited to attend the event with a Black-Tie theme,
they were sadly turned away by security. A sign at the door explained that the
Amapiano Awards were cancelled because the organizers didn't pay up. The
security guard, following instructions, had to prevent anyone from entering.
The organizers later released a statement, blaming
unforeseen circumstances for the cancellation. They apologized to Amapiano
lovers, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused and thanking them for
their support. Despite the setback, they promised to deliver a memorable
experience in the future.
This isn't the first time the Amapiano Awards faced trouble.
Initially planned for April 2, 2023, at the Sun Arena, the awards were
initially postponed due to low ticket sales and internal conflicts. Now, a new
dispute about ownership has led to another cancellation. An insider shared that
Arthur Mafokate acquired the rights to the awards from DJ Qness for nearly a
million Rands without informing sponsors and colleagues, adding to the drama
surrounding the event.
