Diddy's Empire Crumbles: 18 Brands Jump Ship Amidst Allegations
Sean 'Diddy' Combs is facing a tough time as 18 brands are
distancing themselves from him due to recent allegations of sexual abuse. The
famous rapper, known for hits like 'I'll Be Missing You,' is dealing with
lawsuits from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and three other women. This has
led to him stepping down as chairman of Revolt, and several companies are
cutting ties with his new e-commerce platform, Empower Global.
Annette Njau, founder of House of Takura, a company
specializing in bags, apparel, and eyewear, explained their decision in simple
terms, saying, "We take the allegations against Mr. Combs very seriously
and find such behaviour abhorrent and intolerable."
Luxury skincare brand Tsuri emphasized their commitment to
distancing themselves, with founder Ashli Goudelock stating, "As a
women-owned and -led company, we do not and will not linger in a grey area
about the mistreatment of women."
Two other companies, Nuudii System and No One Clothiers,
also cut ties upon learning of the allegations. Lenard Grier, co-founder of No
One Clothiers, highlighted the conflict with their brand's values, saying,
"The allegations against Mr. Combs are in direct conflict with these
beliefs. In turn, we felt a moral imperative to end our relationship."
However, one business owner has decided to stick with the
platform, expressing support for the former CEO Khadijah Robinson's vision.
This founder, who chose to remain anonymous, explained, "[We] were eager
to support what SHE created."
Out of the 160 brands on the platform, five are still
deciding, while nine have no immediate plans to leave. Combs, on the other
hand, continues to deny all allegations, reaching a private settlement with
Cassie, emphasizing that it doesn't imply wrongdoing.
