The Cost of Celebrity Dreams: Lebogang Motsumi's Harrowing Encounter with Zombo

Motivational speaker Lebogang Motsumi, who lives with HIV, recently shared her story about how the late musician Zombo, born Tebogo Ndlovu, infected her with HIV when she was just a teenager. Zombo was a South African singer, songwriter, and music producer, best known as a member of the kwaito group Abashante.

In a post on her social media on December 5, the 33-year-old speaker revealed that when she was 17, she went to a club with a friend to watch a performance by Chomee. During the show, she noticed Zombo winking at her.

Motsumi explained that, at the time, she wanted to become pregnant with Zombo's baby because she thought it would bring her fame. However, she had no clue that Zombo intended to infect her with HIV.

"He then reached out and asked me to watch a music show on SABC1, which I think is called 'Liveamp' now. He appeared on the show sitting in a wheelchair and disclosed his HIV status, mentioning that he spread the virus because he didn't want to die alone," she shared.
