Zanda Zakuza Finds Healing in Homecoming: Singer Returns to Roots After Battling Depression
Singer Zanda Zakuza recently shared that she's taking a break from the music scene due to her battle with depression. She's decided to step away from the bustling city of Johannesburg and is currently staying with her parents in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal. Zanda gained fame for her collaborations with Master KG on hits like Skeleton Moves and Khaya Lam.
Zanda explained that the pressure of the music industry in Johannesburg became too much for her, leading to her hospitalization for depression and anxiety. She described the industry as toxic and felt the need to prioritize her mental health. Zanda expressed that she needed a change of environment and the support of genuine love from family and friends. She now only visits Johannesburg for gigs, describing it as a toxic place. Despite her hiatus, she's staying active by writing music and plans to make a comeback next year, possibly joining a new record label.
Addressing issues with her previous label, Open Mic Productions, Zanda mentioned that things weren't as good as they seemed. She felt neglected by the label, especially after it downsized. An insider revealed that Zanda decided to leave about two months ago due to financial struggles and a desire to grow as an independent artist. During this time away, she aims to regroup and focus on improving her craft.
